Abstract:

Digital panchromatic aerial photographs of Rhode Island scanned from hard copy photo positive prints from the historical collection of photographs held by the Rhode Island Department of Administration Statewide Planning Program.

Purpose:

Originally scanned into digital products for archival preservation and general reference purposes. Subsequently offered to the general public as digital image files for viewing and download over the Internet through the Rhode Island Geographic Information System.

Process_Description:

Photopositive prints for 160 individual 12" X 22" photographs were scanned with an EPSON Expression 836XL scanner at 8 bit grey scale 400 dpi into a TIF image file format. Image identification numbers corresponded to a simulated north-south flight line column from west to east and individual atlas sheet numbers imprinted on the photopositivites. TIF images were compressed at a 5:1 ratio using Lizardtech GeoExpress 4.0 software into MrSid MG2compressed image files
